All Black Everything: NYE

Happy New Year's Eve! Today I wanted to share my go to "going out" outfit that can definitely work for a more low key New Year's Eve outfit. I'm going with a sparkly black dress instead though, stay tuned for the look! What are you ladies wearing? And what are your New Year's resolutions? I'm still coming up with mine...

Merry Christmas!

Just wanted to quickly wish you all a Merry Christmas! Hope you all can spend this time with family and loved ones (and some lovely drinks and gifts too), always remembering that what really matters are the people around the tree and not the gifts under it. Love you all!

Winter Beauty Products

A few of my must haves that have taken over my bathroom now that the weather is colder. My Clarisonic (1) is in the rotation all year, but I use Cetaphil skin cleanser (7) with it once the temperatures have dropped. I moisturize with Bobbi Brown's hydrating face cream (3) and finish with Neutrogena Skin Clearing foundation (2) in honey beige. My go-to lip moisturizer is plain old aquaphor (4) - add lip color on top if you want, but never leave the house without this stuff. For body nothing will get you softer than Dermadoctor's KP duty body scrub and lotion (5); it's pricey but a little goes a long way! For hair I've recently been loving Shea Moisture's conditioner (6) - I use it as conditioner and a bit as leave-in if I'm wearing my hair curly. What are your winter beauty products?

Holiday Decor 2012

Happy Friday! Today I'm just sharing a few photos of the holiday decorations in my apartment this year. I finally decided it was time for my very own tree, and although it looked much smaller in the store I think it still works in my space. See below for links to a few of the key pieces!

Stealing From the Boys

I'm in love with this sweater, the color, the fit, the feel are all so perfect right now. I found it in the boys section of my local Savers for less than $5- had to grab it!

Polka Dots and Leather

Happy Monday! Man I feel like it's been forever since I last posted! Last week was full of ob/gyn wrap-up stuff, 4 oral exams, and a big written exam, but that's done! Today I start my next rotation, pediatrics! I'll be at Children's Hospital here in Boston. How were your weeks? Hopefully a little less hectic than mine! Hope your weekends were full of holiday spirit too!

Work It Wednesday No.21

Time for another edition of Work It Wednesday! For those of you just joining us this is a link up for professional clothes that's appropriate for work, but far from boring! We inspire each other with chic looks for the office or whatever the professional setting is. Please join us!
F21 top, Asos pants, Target bag, TJ Maxx pumps

My favorite look from our last Work It Wednesday link up was the lovely Bri from Work Clothes, I Suppose! I am absolutely loving her look- the animal print in muted colors is still work appropriate, and the way she paired it with a knee length skirt, pointy toe flats, and that chic top knot was just perfect! Great look Bri!
Link up your own look below to give us some more work wear inspiration and a chance to be featured in our next link up! As always thanks for reading!!

Did you get a chance to check out my fall half moon nail tutorial I posted yesterday? Sadly I've already had to remove it because you can't wear nail polish into the operating room, but I enjoyed my gorgeous manicure while it lasted!

Fall Half Moon Nail Tutorial

After putting up this picture on my Instagram yesterday (follow me @lauralacquer) I got a few requests to do a tutorial, so without further ado, here it is! My fall half moon manicure, featuring two of my favorite colors for fall - oxblood/burgundy and gold!
Hope you all are having relaxing weekends!

DIY Rustic Dining Table

I mentioned last month how I was sick of my dining table. I was ready for something new but wasn't willing to pay $700 for a new West Elm table. Using this inspiration and the materials above, I made my own for less than $150!
I had the wood cut at Lowe's and bought the pipes the perfect height so all I had to do was attach them to the flanges. I aligned the 3 large slabs of wood, secured them with 3 smaller pieces (make sure your screws are long enough, but not long enough to drill through the top of your table!), attached the flanges at 4 corners, spray-painted the pipe legs gold, then sanded and stained the table. Voila!
Perfect size for the nook in my apartment!
Hope this post inspires some of you ladies to make your own too! Happy Friday!

Green Sweater

Happy Wednesday! Although I shy away from politics I have to say that last night was an amazing night for women in this country. Congrats to Obama for his re-election, to Tammy Baldwin for her election to Senate (and being a Smithie and openly gay), and to Elizabeth Warren, the first woman to represent Massachusetts in Senate. And now to our normal schedule :)

Tuesday Getaway

Imagine this: cozying up to a hot cup of dark chocolate cocoa wrapped in a soft blanket sinking in on a cozy couch, the sound of the fire crackling, the smell of wood burning, in this room.
Ok now back to your normal Tuesday ;)

Delivering Babies

Happy Wednesday! Work It Wednesday will have to be postponed because it turns out I still wear scrubs everyday on ob/gyn! I wear blue every single day (see first photo from my instagram -lauralacquer - for an idea). My real clothes is feeling unloved, my closet's all dusty. It's alright though, because yesterday, on my first full day of ob/gyn, I delivered my first baby. Now, I fully expected to just watch this whole process, but next thing I knew I was the one with my hands down there instructing my patient in Spanish to push as the midwife told me what to do. Unreal. In a matter of seconds a woman went from being completely alone and in tremendous pain (she had no support there besides us) to having the only thing in the world she needed and bursting into tears of joy. It was beautiful. The second photo is of course not me or the baby I delivered (mine was more slimy) but you get the idea.
