Hospital Time

August 31, 2011

One of my bestest friends was kind enough to snap these quick pictures of me after leaving the hospital this evening. We were waiting for the shuttle, and of course as soon as we started taking pictures it showed up! So she also snapped me running across the street to make the shuttle (I should add that I was completely oblivious to traffic; good thing she can also hold me back from running into oncoming cars who don't care if we miss the shuttle or not). Where would I be without good friends? Thanks Michie! On a side note my new shoes were amazingly comfortable all day and I think it's true love.

Mailman Made My Day

August 30, 2011

Thank you postal gods and goddesses for showering me with gifts today: my new shoes from Banana Republic (the perfect summer-to-fall transition shoes), my beautiful black and gold stethoscope, and all the other doctor-in-training goods... which I will hopefully know how to use someday in the very near future. But why was I given two reflex hammers (only one pictured here)? I think the medical supply peoples know that my favorite thing will be bashing people's knees with these things... I kid I kid!

My Sad Confession

I promise I'm not the type of person who wears sunglasses indoors.
But since I'm back at school my amazing Dave can't take pictures for me anymore (except on weekends), so I've been getting all snuggly with the self timer on my camera. This is embarrassing enough to have to do inside my apartment with nobody watching, but outside in public? Yeah right. So the shades are on and I am inside. But let's pretend that I'm outside, k?

Fashion Inspiration

August 29, 2011

This week Independent Fashion Bloggers posed a great question: where do you find your fashion inspiration? Although I still love the glossy pages of magazines (and clothes catalogues like J. Crew), most of the time I find my inspiration from fellow bloggers (way more experienced bloggers might I add). I like to see what real women wear - to work or school, out for drinks, whatever the event - not just on a catwalk. Here are my top ten picks (in alphabetical order). Where do you find your inspiration?

Weekend Recap

On the bus heading back to Boston after an amazing weekend being a bum (thank you Irene for allowing me to be a bum completely guilt-free). After class Friday I headed to South Station and caught the bus home to Springfield. I figured if this hurricane was going to leave us powerless and flooded, I wanted to be back home with my family, not alone in my apartment. It was so good seeing Dave's car at the station waiting for me! We ordered our favorite pizza in the world, then headed to the movies to see Don't Be Afraid of the Dark. Did any of you see a new movie this weekend? Saturday we ran a few errands and got delicious paninis for lunch, then hunkered down waiting for the storm. Hunkering down consisted of lots of yummy coffee, movies, xbox, and magazines. Oh and Max! How could I forget Max? After missing him so much (read here) it felt nice to cuddle up with my puppy again. Sunday morning I made fabulous nutella stuffed french toast and mom made sausage, and then we hunkered down some more. Sunday night after it had all passed Dave and I went out to get drinks and dessert (we also colored, and as you can see, somebody can't stay in the lines). Then we spent the rest of the night sitting on the front steps, enjoying the cool breeze, and talking about life. Perfect weekend to recharge my batteries for the busy week ahead of me. Today is my first day of our neuroscience class and my first day at Mass General Hospital! Hope you all had weekends that were just as lovely!

Nutella Stuffed French Toast

August 28, 2011

This is the perfect lazy Sunday morning (or afternoon) food that goes oh so perfectly with a big hot cup of coffee. Here's what you need for 4 servings:
  • 8 slices texas toast
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup light cream
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Nutella
  • syrup
  • powdered sugar (optional)
Heat a skillet to low-medium temperature. Mix the eggs, cream, cinnamon, and vanilla extract in a large bowl. Take two slices of texas toast, spread nutella on both, and put them together to make a sandwich. Dip the sandwich in the liquid mixture, making sure to coat all sides. Place it on a nonstick pan (or grease it up first with crisco or pam) and cook both sides. When done, put on a plate and add as much syrup and powdered sugar as you like! Enjoy!

Hurricane for the Hurricane!

August 27, 2011

Ok I felt like a complete cheat leaving you guys with WINE Friday instead of a real cocktail (not that there's anything at all wrong with wine, just Friday is cocktail time!). So sitting here waiting for the hurricane, all my guilt sinking in, I decided to make a hurricane for you all! And even if you're not on the East Coast waiting for Ms. Irene, make one for your friends who are! Here's what you need for one drink:
  • 4 oz orange juice
  • 4 oz grenadine
  • 2-3 oz white rum
  • ice cubes
Mix the OJ, grenadine, and rum, then add ice! Some people like pineapple juice with this drink as well, but I find it a little too sweet (it's already a very sweet drink). Enjoy the drinks and stay safe! xoxo

Actually they're my mom's jeans. Were - they're mine now (she donated them I didn't steal them).

Red Red Wine

August 26, 2011

Stay close to me! Now that I've gotten that song stuck in your head for the rest of the day... I was going to make a fancy cocktail recipe today, but instead I decided to share one of my favorite drinks OF ALL with you! Yummy red wine. Of course there's no recipe for this, you just buy a bottle. But I wanted to share some of the health benefits with you guys by providing a little informational handout I made for my nutrition class this week! So here's a glass/beer/shot to your health (only one), try to stay safe in this hurricane, and enjoy your lovely weekends!

A Nautical Outfit for the Hurricane

I'm actually not really sure why I think a nautical outfit would be appropriate for the approaching hurricane, in fact rain boots and a poncho might serve me better. But what the heck this sailor inspired outfit and hurricanes fit together in my mind. This was really just a relaxed Saturday outfit though, I wouldn't get dressed up for the silly hurricane.

Maybe this fantastic apron will do me some good? Eh probably not either. I like to make jokes about these things, but seriously everyone on the East Coast stay safe, and hope (like I tell myself) the weather men are just being drama queens.

Fall To Dos

August 25, 2011

It's almost September now, and September = fall (yes yes technically-minded people I know the autumnal equinox isn't until September 23rd, but I don't care September is fall). Here's my to do list!

Included are my favorite fall fests and fairs, Rendez-Vous New England, maybe some fall camping? I've never been apple picking, probably because I'm allergic to apples (that's right folks, I fail at life and cannot enjoy a raw apple). But what the heck I think it'd be fun! Definitely need to restock my pumpkin spice candle supply and carve some pumpkins (because we forgot last year)! And of course make my favorite pumpkin cheesecake muffins! Brainstorming ideas for a cute couples' halloween costume, I have no idea how Dave and I are going to beat last year's (I'll save this for another post). Oh and can't forget a haunted house or two and a corn maze! Last year's was a Campbell's soup can! How perfect! What's at the top of your fall to do list?

Furry Little Things

August 24, 2011

This was the last picture I took with my dog before I came back to Boston. I like to think that he lays in the window just like this missing me and reminiscing about our time together. Probably not. I mean I'm sure he's laying in the window but he's just looking for squirrels or dreaming about strawberry and cream scones from Panera (he loves those). It's ok though, I miss him anyway.

And as soon as I thought I couldn't bear missing him any longer, Dave and I found this kitty under a car. Her name is Keiko, and she looks just like my childhood best friend, my cat Mizu (except 20 pounds lighter). I love Japanese pet names don't ask me why, I wanted to name my dog Hachi (after Hachiko), but I was overruled and they named him Max (could it get any more typical). But back to Keiko. I wanted to take her home and give her a good bath, but we were on our way to brunch and couldn't bring animals in the restaurant. We told ourselves if she was there when we got back we'd take her in, but of course she was nowhere to be found. So now I'm without a furry little thing, left wondering what they are doing and if they're ok. I'm sure Max's greedy behind is, but where's Keiko?

Pumps, boutique in Puerto Rico

On our last day in Puerto Rico this past March, Dave and I spent a few hours leisurely walking around San Juan. When we walked by this one window in particular, these shoes started whispering to me. Dave told me to go in (what a great guy) and these were the last pair. My exact size (51/2). And the name of the shoe style? Laura. Sometimes signs are loud and clear.
