Halloween 2012

October 29, 2012

Happy Monday! I hope you all had great weekends.  Earlier this month I put together a post of some of our past couples costumes (here), and this weekend we got to debut this year's costume.
Dave and I were Popeye and Olive Oyl!
We had a blast making the costumes, read more below!
For Dave's costume we got a $1 black polo shirt from the thrift store and blue scrub pants. I sewed on his red color and yellow buttons using colored felt pieces, and sewed up a yellow felt belt. We found his sailor hat at the army barracks store and his corn cob pipe at the local smoke shop. Popeye wouldn't be complete with his anchor tattoo that I drew on, and his spinach! We taped a box of spinach to a glass mug :) For my costume I picked up a red shirt and black skirt from the thrift shop (both $2 each), sewed on pieces of white felt and glued a strip of yellow ribbon to the bottom of the skirt. I pinned my hair up in Olive Oyl fashion, threw on some pearl earrings, and added my brown boots and white socks. What do you guys think! We had so much fun!
Did you ladies dress up for halloween? Do tell! Glad we celebrated this weekend because with Sandy on the way it seems real Halloween won't be happening. I hope all of you in the Northeast stay safe throughout this storm! As always thanks so much for reading.

Delivering Babies

October 24, 2012

Happy Wednesday! Work It Wednesday will have to be postponed because it turns out I still wear scrubs everyday on ob/gyn! I wear blue every single day (see first photo from my instagram -lauralacquer - for an idea). My real clothes is feeling unloved, my closet's all dusty. It's alright though, because yesterday, on my first full day of ob/gyn, I delivered my first baby. Now, I fully expected to just watch this whole process, but next thing I knew I was the one with my hands down there instructing my patient in Spanish to push as the midwife told me what to do. Unreal. In a matter of seconds a woman went from being completely alone and in tremendous pain (she had no support there besides us) to having the only thing in the world she needed and bursting into tears of joy. It was beautiful. The second photo is of course not me or the baby I delivered (mine was more slimy) but you get the idea.

Zombie Weekend

October 22, 2012

A few shots from the weekend - Dave and I were zombies in flannel shirts for an awesome zombie pub crawl with friends (so sad we don't have all the pictures from the night!) and lots and lots of gorgeous colors of fall. Aaand we made a new dining table (using this inspiration), photos coming soon! Hope you all had great weekends!

Dining Table Inspiration

October 19, 2012

I'm sick of my dining table.
Nothing against the dining table, I just don't like it anymore.
Sometimes feelings change, ya know?
It doesn't help that I've been checking out these tables...
I feel a DIY coming on soon.
Hope you all have great weekends! Today is my last day of my surgery rotation (tear) so this weekend is completely free. On the agenda is scary movies, a zombie pubcrawl, and a birthday party!
As always thanks for reading!

I tell you if I could just wear these burgundy jeans and my green ones all the time I would be set. Add some cognac (leather of course) and I'm sold. I love the colors of fall!
Blue scrubs are not very fall-tastic.
Yes I just said fall-tastic.

Pumpkins and Exams

October 15, 2012

Just a few snapshots from my weekend - or really from my Sunday evening. Saturday was spent working in the Emergency Room, and most of Sunday was spent trying to study for this Surgery Shelf (our big exam at the end of each clerkship). Sunday evening was spent out eating and watching the Pats game, and finally spray-painting my little pumpkin gold :)
I hope you all spent your weekends the way you wanted and are ready for another week! I'm looking forward to being done with this exam today and then checking lots off of my to-do list!

Red bag and Neutrals

October 12, 2012

Happy Friday! Just sharing a simple outfit for date night out with Dave. I hope you all have lovely weekends! Mine will be spent working in the ED and studying for my surgery shelf (sounds like last weekend, huh?).

Military Jacket and Boot Cut Jeans

October 10, 2012

I'm pretty sure I haven't worn flare jeans since I was in high school. But something about this fall made me feel the need to bring these back into my life and I'm glad I did. I started easy with a boot cut, but boy do I love these jeans! What about you ladies with only skinnies in the closet; are you going to give flare jeans another shot?

Happy Long Weekend!

October 6, 2012

Happy long weekend! Hope you all have some relaxing and fall celebrating planned for the weekend. I work in the ED all day tomorrow and will be studying the rest of the time, but will squeeze in as much fun as I can!

PS - I put this picture up on Instagram (@lauralacquer) yesterday evening and many of you had questions about my curly hair routine. It varies all of the time, but I always love my conditioner rinse and coconut oil (read about them here). For this style I just rinsed my hair in the shower with the Suave conditioner (ie no shampoo, just conditioner with scalp massage and comb out), rinsed completely, then added a pea size amount of conditioner to my wet hair. Then wrap with a microfiber towel for a few minutes, take out, and add the tiniest little amount of coconut oil. Then let dry without touching it again!

Home Decor: Antlers

October 5, 2012

Going along with the rustic theme I've been loving lately, my latest obsession in chic homes: antlers. Love the natural touch they give, immediately warming up any room. Off to find the perfect pair for my living room (after studying for my surgery shelf of course).

Happy Friday!

Girl with the Red Scarf

October 3, 2012

A simple fall look featuring a gorgeous red scarf/wrap that is the softest thing ever! Even more impressive than the scarf itself is the fact that I did not get nacho cheese, marinara sauce, or beer on it during our Sunday night football dinner at our local pub. *Pats self on back*

Couples Halloween Costumes

October 2, 2012

I still can't believe we're already into October, I'm 2 weeks away from being done with the first 6 months of third year! Crazy. It also means it's time to start thinking about Halloween costumes! Dave and I always have so much fun coming up with ideas for couples costumes - here are a few of our past looks!
Cruella Deville and her dalmation- This was such a fun and cheap costume - most of the pieces came from the thrift store or our own closets! Read more about it here.
Colonel Sanders and his chicken - Another super fun costume complete with chicken feathers made from white boa pinned to shorts and chicken feet made from dishwashing gloves! Read here for more!
We can do "scary" too - zombies are always a classic. I had a lot of fun doing the makeup for these (using youtube to learn how to do simple zombie makeup using toilet paper)!

Have any of you done couples costumes? We'd love to hear what you've done!

Loungewear: All Black

October 1, 2012

For some reason "fashion" bloggers never dress down; good thing I'm not a fashion blogger. Most of my outfits are more dressed down in their simplicity, but I don't think I've yet shared a picture of me in sweats. So I apologize for the iphone pics, but I wasn't planning on taking pics of this look at all! As an aside, in these photos I'm also deep conditioning my hair with coconut oil and just pulled it up in a top knot to run errands! I'm all about multitasking ;)
