Work It Wednesday No.20

Dress, boutique back home (similar here and here)
Blazer, Banana Republic (similar here)
Pumps, Guess (similar here)
Bag, Target

Middle of the week already! I think this Wednesday it's finally time for September's edition of Work It Wednesday. These link ups have been tough to do lately seeing as I never dress up on my surgery rotation. Even on clinic days I'm dressed on the way casual end of business casual (tossing a stethoscope around my neck is the only legitimate accessory I need anyway).

My look centers around a dress with a plunging backline perfect for a night out, but completely inappropriate for the office - until you throw on a blazer and immediately have a great look! And for cocktails after work just lose the jacket and add a smoky eye!

My favorite look from August's link up was by Lindsey from Thrift and Shout!
Loved the colors, the stripes, and the fit of this entire look! Amazing thrifting too! So cute for work Lindsey!
I'm trying something new this week, especially for those of you who don't have your own blogs. Snap a picture of your look and share it on instagram with the tag #workitwednesday for the chance to be featured there!

Of course for those of you with blogs, link up here for a chance to be featured next month. I can't wait to see what you ladies share, I've missed seeing all of your inspiring and oh-so-chic work looks! So check out the looks, link up below, and spread the word! As always thanks so much for reading.

Linking this look up with Pretty Shiny Sparkly and The Pleated Poppy as well!

Happy Monday! Just a simple fall outfit worn this weekend for apple picking! Actually pear picking since I'm allergic to apples; had to make sure we went to an orchard that grew more!

Today I'm linking up with the lovely Kristina (another doctor blogger) of Pretty Shiny Sparkly. Visiting from Bloggers Do It Bettter? Stay for a while and check out some of my other looks or try out a new drink recipe!

Make sure to check back on Wednesday for September's edition of our Work It Wednesday link up. Get your chic work looks ready!

As always thanks for reading, here's to a great week!

Apple Cider Martini

With the crisp weather making it's way to New England these last two weeks and the official start of fall upon us tomorrow, I had to come up with a little something to celebrate. I hope you all enjoy this simple apple cider martini recipe I made and celebrate the start of fall with me!
Here's what you'll need:
apple cider
whipped cream flavored vodka
orange and apple slices
cinnamon and sugar
cinnamon sticks (optional)

For the drink mix 1 part cider with 1 part whipped cream vodka (or to your taste). On a plate mix a bit of cinnamon and sugar for the rim of your glass. Slice the orange and use a slice to coat the rim of the glass, then press the glass into the cinnamon and sugar mix. Add an orange slice to the bottom of your glass, then add the cider mix. Add a cinnamon stick, an apple slice on top and finish with a sprinkle of cinnamon!

No need for a martini glass, either! Enjoy in a mug or mason jar with a cinnamon-sugar rim too!
Cheers to a beautiful season!

A Day in the Life of a Harvard Med Student: surgery

So I'll start by saying that there's nothing special about being a Hah-vad med student, but I can only speak for my school when I tell you what a day in the life is like. I get a lot of questions (from family, friends, and readers) about what an average day is like for me; of course there are no "average" days in the clinical years (the first two years are mostly class time, but now it's all hospital time, and as each rotation varies so does the way the day is spent). I'm on surgery right now; here was my day today:
Just another day, really not a bad day at all - the tougher days are when you're in the OR until 8 or 9. But as they say, time flies when you're having fun! And surgery is lots of fun. Hope this answered some of your questions! Let me know if you guys liked this post and I can do more like it as I continue on different services. As always thanks for reading!

Big E Weekend

Just a few photos from this weekend. Visited my mom in the hospital and tried to enjoy the beginning of fall festivities (aka the Big E and football)! Hope you all had great weekends!

Happy Friday!

This week has been a crazy one (see a little more here), but amazing nonetheless. For the weekend? I plan on heading home home as soon as I get out of work to visit my mama in the hospital. If she's doing alright a nice hike and a trip to the Big E will hopefully happen :)

Hope you all have great weekends!
As always thanks for reading and following along, even when medical school and the hospital make regularly blogging a little difficult!
{Wearing scrubs every day also make taking daily outfit pictures quite difficult, but we'll get through this haha ;) }

Life Lately

The weekend was spent doing a 24 hour shift at the hospital on Friday and then heading directly back home to Springfield to that hospital to visit my mama. She had surgery and hopefully is on the road to recovery.
The week thus far has been spent doing some pretty amazing cases in the OR. I'm on surgical oncology right now, and this picture is me sitting shotgun with my surgeon and the DaVinci robot doing a case. A great week for learning so far.
Of course all the learning means long hours - I arrive when it's dark and leave when it's dark.
No complaining here though, this is what I came home to yesterday :)
Thanks for reading, and I hope you all are having great weeks!

Green Jeans

Top, JCPenney (similar here)
Blazer, Banana Republic (here)
Jeans, GAP Outlet (similar here, much cheaper here)
Pumps, Guess (similar here)
Watch, JCPenney (similar here)

Happy Friday everyone! I have to be honest with you - our trip to New Hampshire this weekend, although most of it was spent enjoying our natural surroundings, was also spent at the outlets. But the outlets are outside around the mountains so that counts as outdoorsy still, right? Anyway, I'm never one to go on vacation just to shop, but we couldn't resist just stopping in a few places. These green jeans from GAP were marked down from $60 to $30, plus an extra 20% off of everything! Had to do it. I hope your weeks have been good to you so far and your weekends are filled with happiness.

Dream Home

A girl can dream, right? Rustic wood, neutrals, and pops of color from fresh flowers are the inspiration for my dream home.
What would have to be in your dream home?

Labor Day Weekend

Happy Tuesday! Boy does that sound better than Happy Monday; nothing like a 3 day weekend and 4 day workweek - a lot more balanced don't you think? Here are a few photos from our quick trip to New Hampshire this weekend (and all taken with my iPhone because this smart girl remembered her DSLR but forgot to charge her battery)!
I hope you all had fabulous three day weekends and are ready to tackle this week!
Thanks for reading!
